- Tommy Davis
Are you craving for burgers or delicious hot dogs? But, your meat grinder is failing you every time you want to make the patty for your burgers or sausages. This might be the result of having blunt blades. Meat grinders fail to work efficiently if you do not sharpen meat grinder blades consistently. Sharp blades are the key to getting finely ground meat. It is not a difficult task to make these blades work like before. We have described three ways for you to follow to sharpen your meat grinder blades.
Sandpapers
The most common way is to use sandpapers in the process of sharpening. Firstly, you need to damp the blades before sharpening and then press them on sandpapers at a 45º angle. Now, start moving the blades in a circular motion or a figure like “8”. You will see dirt coming out of the blades as you do so.
You can use 120 grit sandpapers to start and move on to 600 grit sandpapers to get a preferred result. If you want to have a final polish, you can implement the same process on 1200 grit sandpapers as well.
Grinding Block
Another way to sharpen meat grinder blades is by using grinding block. Again, you would need to wet the blades before sharpening them. You are required to wet the block as well. Now, put the blades on the block and start moving them in a circular motion. Mostly, it is a must to move it in round motion to sharpen the blades. Now, wipe the impurities and let them dry.
Cutting Discs
The third way is sharpening the blades by cutting discs. Cutting discs are available in the market. Attach the disc on the tip of the machine that will let the disc rotate for three thousand revolutions per minute. Keep the blades on the cutting discs now. For better fixation, you can use bolts. As the machine starts rotating the disc, the meat grinder blades will move in a circular motion and thus sharpen accordingly. It will take lesser time and effort to sharpen meat grinder blades.
Tips
You can apply the following tips too if you want your blades to sharpen like brand new and polished like a mirror:
- Do not forget to wet your blades before sharpening them and in some cases damp the sandpapers and grinding block too.
- Always use sandpapers on a flat countertop.
- Wipe the meat grinder blades or clean them to enhance its shine.
- If you do not have enough time to sharpen the blades you can use this trick as well. You can sharpen your blades on sandpapers or blocks by using drill machine. In this regard, insert the chuck through the center of the blade and put it on the sandpaper or blocks. As a result, the blades will move in a circle, and you would not need to waste your energy too.
These are few tips and tricks to sharpen meat grinder blades and make the desired patty for your burgers, sausages for hot dogs or healthy salad. Everyone should start maintaining this kitchen stuff regularly if possible. Hopefully, now you will be able to receive the best out of your meat grinders.
